Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce sent a message of congratulations to Alpine after Esteban Ocon and Pierre Gasly scored a miraculous double-podium behind Max Verstappen at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Kelce is one of a number of celebrity investors in the Enstone-based team, joining Hollywood superstars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenny, Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, fellow NFL star Patrick Mahomes and golfing sensation Rory McIlroy in pledging funding towards the team back in 2023.
Now his involvement is paying off.
After finishing second and third at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace on Sunday, Alpine have taken a giant leap forward in the Constructors’ Championship standings, leapfrogging Williams, VCARB and Haas into P6.
Jumping onto social media after the chequered flag, Kelce posted: “ALPINE!!! @AlpineF1Team. LFG!!!” This message was then backed up by Kansas City Chiefs team-mate and co-investor Patrick Mahomes, who posted: “Great Race!!!!! @AlpineF1Team @EstebanOcon @PierreGASLY.”
The passion was felt by the drivers, who have endured a miserable season until this point, spending most races scrapping over positions outside of the top 10. Before Sunday’s Grand Prix, the team’s best finish of the season was ninth, scored four times throughout the campaign.
Speaking to the media afterwards, Ocon explained: “After the difficult season, it’s really nice to be driving around here and having the performance a bit levelled out because of the rain.
