The Kansas City Chiefs suffered a brutal 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, diminishing what could have been a historic NFL season. Kansas City entered the matchup having won back-to-back titles.
They were looking to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight but were halted by the Eagles. Following a dominant performance from Philadelphia, Eagles legend and the brother of Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, Jason Kelce, shared his thoughts on the game.
Jason Kelce explained that the matchup between the Eagles and Chiefs put him in a tough predicament, having to choose between his brother and his former team.
While many fans around the league called for Jason Kelce to choose a side, he stayed neutral, but he admitted that the result wasn’t easy.
“There’s part of me that is obviously very happy and proud that they won this game, but that does not take precedence over rooting for you,” Jason Kelce said while fighting back tears.
“That’s why this game sucked as much as I like the Eagles, as much as I love the city of Philadelphia. There was not a [expletive] ounce of me. I tried to correlate that I was rooting for both sides the whole time and that I was going to be happy and sad regardless.”
Travis Kelce then comforted Jason Kelce, mentioning that he doesn’t need to seek the approval of fans and understands his brother’s emotions after the Chiefs’ blowout loss.
“You don’t owe any of these [expletive] the acknowledgment,” Travis Kelce said, per the “New Heights” show. “You really don’t, Jason. Everyone who knows you knows your intentions.”
Travis Kelce finished the game with four receptions for 39 yards. The Chiefs’ offense struggled all game, capping off the Super Bowl with 275 total yards and just 12 first-down conversions.
The Eagles finished their season with an 18-3 record, bulldozing their way through the postseason with victories over the Green Bay Packers, Los Angeles Rams, Washington Commanders and Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia’s win over Kansas City now gives them the postseason edge after the Chiefs defeated the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, 38-35. While it’s a sunny day in Philadelphia, Jason Kelce has clearly shown mixed emotions about the outcome of the Super Bowl.
