Kansas City Chiefs Cut 7 Players Following Super Bowl 59 Loss

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a major decision to make within the next month: will he continue playing football during the 2025 season?

“I know everybody wants to know whether I am playing next year and right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road,” Kelce said during the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast with brother Jason.

“I am not making any crazy decisions but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches understanding there’s a lot that goes into this thing.

I’ve been fortunate over the past five, six years, I’ve played more football than anybody…” “The fact that we keep going to these AFC Championships and Super Bowls, that means I’m playing an extra three games more than everybody else in the entire league. That’s a lot of wear and tear on your body,” he added.

“It’s a lot of time in the building … That process can be grueling. It can weigh on you. It can make you better and it can drive you crazy. Right now, it was one of those things where it was driving me crazy this year. It happens as you tail off towards the back nine of your career.”

Fans were saddened to hear Kelce’s conflicted thoughts about stepping away from the game.

“The wheels are falling off. My heart breaks for trav, all his life he has worked hard to get where he’s at.

Now he needs to decide if it’s worth for him to stay, with all the guilt on whether he can still play at his best. I hope he takes his time, it’s a big decision,” one person said.

“Sounds like he’s leaning towards retiring,” offered another with a crying emoji.

“That hug from Patrick end of game made me think he was leaning towards it. He’s talked a lot on the pod about his body not recovering like it used to which is what happens at 35. But his position is so physical I know he hurts,” added another.

Kelce hauled in a career-low 823 yards and just three touchdowns during the 2024 campaign.
