Troy Aikman’s Nickname For Taylor Swift Sparks Backlash During Saints-Chiefs

ESPN NFL analyst Troy Aikman found himself in some hot water with Taylor Swift fans on Monday night.

During ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast of the New Orleans Saints vs. Kansas City Chiefs, Aikman commented on Swift’s reaction to a big play from her boyfriend, Travis Kelce.

“The Mrs. likes it,” Aikman said on the broadcast. Aikman’s broadcast partner Joe Buck immediately jumped in for some damage control, saying his daughters constantly urge him to avoid making jokes about Swift during Chiefs games.

Swift fans flooded social media with some not-so-thrilled reactions to Aikman’s nickname for the international music superstar.

“Troy Aikman mistakenly said, ‘There’s the missus,’ referring to Taylor Swift at the KC-Saints game. What the heck?” one fan wrote.

“Troy Aikman just called Taylor Swift ‘the missus’ and he’s about to get canceled for it,” another said. “Dear Troy Aikman, DO NOT call Taylor Swift ‘the Mrs.’ It’s demeaning. Even if she WAS his wife. She’s Taylor Alison Swift – global superstar,” another added.

Kelce finished the first half with a season-high eight catches and 67 yards, leading the Chiefs to a 16-7 lead at the end of the first two quarters. The superstar tight end is still in search of his first touchdown of the 2024 NFL season.
