For fans, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s relationship is essentially an unstoppable love tale.
However, comedian Hannah Berner discovered the hard way that not everyone is on board. She is currently dealing with a lot of flak after making a joke about the pair in her Netflix show Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year that didn’t land.
Using the Luigi Mangione murder case as a backdrop, Berner attacked Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce in her show. “Aside from Travis Kelce, who knew that you could become so popular with women by shooting loads into a billionaire?” she joked.
What’s the punchline? awkward quiet. While some audience members chuckled uneasily, the majority appeared uneasy. On social media, Swift’s horde of admirers, known as the Swifties, didn’t hold back. such as “Hannah Berner isn’t funny” on Twitter. The phrases “Stop reducing Taylor to the men in her life!” and “She’s just gross!” soon became popular.
It seems that Berner had previously tried to make fun of the couple. She called Taylor’s actions “gazelle-like” when she ran toward Travis during a game earlier this year. “They’ve probably hung out like 16 times at most,” she added in jest, “but everyone’s acting like it’s a Disney love story.”
Even speculating about their possible split, Berner stated, “Travis will have to move to another planet if they split.” Perhaps it explains why he has been spending time with Bezos. Fans are tired of comedians using Taylor as the punchline, even though these jokes were intended to be humorous.
If you don’t do anything, it’s to screw with Taylor Swift. Berner’s joke was immediately deemed demeaning and misogynistic by fans. The most influential woman in music, Taylor Swift, is still treated like a footnote in a man’s narrative, according to one fan’s tweet. It wears you out.
Another person added, “It’s not funny when women undermine other women. It’s simply depressing. Particularly with regard to women in the spotlight, the response has rekindled discussions about the thin line separating humor from downright disrespect.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce are doing well in spite of the commotion. Taylor continues to set records and remain unconcerned, while Travis is dominating with the Kansas City Chiefs. Fans are fawning over their rumored plans to move to Nashville and start a family.
Berner has not yet responded to the criticism. It will be interesting to watch if she apologizes or doubles down. One thing is certain, though: Swifties will not tolerate this.
