Many have a negative opinion of pop superstar Taylor Swift‘s affiliation with the NFL. Swift has been dating Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce for over a year, and there’s been rumors the two could potentially get engaged after the NFL season ends.

In addition to the massive celebrity status and publicity Swift brings with her when she attends Chiefs games, she’s also helped to bring more eyeballs to the NFL, specifically increasing the number of women who watch the game.

For that very reason, Allison Kuch, who’s the wife of former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Isaac Rochell, thinks Swift should be commended for helping to create change in an area that’s been a polarizing subject over the years – how wives and girlfriends of players are perceived.

“I think women in and around sports are being uplifted more now, and we have so many incredible women to thank for that,” Kuch told People.com. “I mean, Taylor Swift, Simone Biles, Brittany Mahomes – these women are doing amazing things beyond just being a wife.

“The narrative is moving in a much more positive direction, away from the old stereotype of, ‘Oh, you married him for his money.’ I hope I’ve played a part in changing that as well.” Kuch has been with Rochell since his days at Notre Dame, so she’s knows all the highs and lows of being the wife of an NFL player.

Rochell is currently a free agent but he’s spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, Cleveland Browns and Indianapolis Colts (totaling 114 tackles, 9.5 sacks and one interception), so she’s seen it through the perspective of multiple fan bases as well.

Because Swift and Kelce live their lives in a very public manner, and their relationship is front-and-center of most media outlets, Rochell told People.com that it’s made him feel more comfortable sharing parts of his relationship on social media as well.

“Fans criticize me all the time for doing things outside of football, but then you see Travis, very present in pop culture, flying to New York during his bye week, being a great boyfriend, and still having an incredible football season with the best team in the NFL,” Rochell stated.

“It’s really refreshing to see. Taylor Swift is also a great representative of the awesome women that make up the NFL. She’s sharp, she’s legit.”
