Atlanta Falcons’ safety Jessie Bates has no problem trash-talking about his famous pop star girlfriend, Taylor Swift, to tight end ravis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
During his Friday guest appearance on the podcast “The Pacman Jones Show,” Bates, a two-time NFL All-Pro, stated that harsh language directed towards Taylor Swift is acceptable. At Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday night, the Falcons will host the Chiefs.
“I don’t listen to much Taylor Swift, but obviously you got to have respect for what she’s done in her career. And then with Travis [Kelce], you got to have some type of respect with him,” Bates said with a smile. “But once that clock ticks and we’re in between those lines. I see red sometimes and might say some crazy stuff to him, it may involve Taylor, in may not. It’s just part of the game, talking your little smack.”
In Week 2, Bates and the Falcons defeated the Philadelphia Eagles with a stunning comeback. In the win, the 2023 Pro Bowler recorded a game-high 12 tackles and one interception.
In his career, Bates has had some success versus Kansas City. Bates is 3-2 (including playoffs) against the Chiefs after spending his first five seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals. In the 2021 AFC Championship game, he assisted Cincinnati in defeating Kansas City and moving on to the 56th Super Bowl.
Bates was signed by the Falcons in 2023 free agency. The 27-year-old defensive back, who is thought to be among the NFL’s top cover safeties, is anticipated to face Kelce frequently on Sunday. With eighteen tackles going into Week 3, he is second on the team and owns the only interception for the team.
After two games, Kelce has four catches for 39 receiving yards. But last season, when Taylor Swift was there, he had incredible figures. The match on Sunday night is expected to be close.
This season, the Falcons and Chiefs have faced off in five games, all decided by a single score. There may also be some trash-talking.
