Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to a 27-19 victory over C.J. Stroud and the Houston Texans in the final regular season game at Arrowhead Stadium. However, the Texans may have lost more than the game. With Houston behind 17-10 in the third quarter, Stroud connected with wide receiver Tank Dell for a 30-yard touchdown pass.
Even though Dell made the grab, the second-year phenom had a severe leg injury that could ruin his season. While Dell was sliding to the ground with the ball in his clutches, another Texans wideout, Jared Wayne, was also attempting the grab. Wayne dived at it and landed on top of Dell’s leg, forcing it to become hooked underneath and bend in an odd way. Dell lay on the turf in anguish for quite some time before being taken off the field.
Following the game, Travis Kelce and Stroud met at midfield for the usual handshake between quarterbacks. Mics picked up the Chiefs TEs word to Stroud about Dell’s injury. “Hoping we see y’all in the playoffs,” Kelce told Stroud. “We’re praying for Tank too, man.”
Patrick Mahomes finished the game 28-of-41 for 260 yards and one touchdown, with 33 yards and another score on the ground. Stroud, on the other side, completed 59% of his passes, totaling 244 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
Despite his early exit, Dell still led the game in receiving yards with 98. However, his ailment is surely cause for concern, especially after sustaining a season-ending broken ankle in 2023. The Chiefs improved to 14-1 with the win, while the Texans fell to 9-6. Both clubs will play their next games on Christmas Day, with Kansas City facing the Pittsburgh Steelers and Houston taking on the Baltimore Ravens.
