The Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 29-10 on Christmas Day, improving to 15-1 on the season and thereby clinching the No. 1 spot. In their pursuit of a record Super Bowl three-peat, Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is overjoyed to have secured a first-round bye and home field advantage. “It shows the toughness of the team,” he told reporters after the game. “Getting the No. 1 seed is critical. “It’s like winning a playoff game.”
However, Mahomes, who completed 76.3% of his throws for 320 yards and three touchdowns against the Steelers, was excited to earn the No. 1 seed for a more personal reason. Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, is expecting their third child “any day now.” During his postgame interview, Mahomes stated, “I told my wife I was gonna get her the No. 1 seed so we can go have that baby.”
Brittany, who is expecting a baby girl, did not attend the Chiefs-Steelers game at Acrisure Stadium. However, she had a passionate reaction to her husband’s postgame shoutout. “Always keeping his promises,” she wrote in her Instagram Stories. The three-time Super Bowl MVP and his wife already had two children: Sterling, three, and Patrick “Bronze” Lavon, two. 
When the couple announced at training camp that they were having their third child, Mahomes made it plain that it would also be their last. “I’m done,” he informed reporters. This is the Mahomes’ final Christmas as a family of four, and Brittany commemorated it with a new photo album before traveling to Pittsburgh for the Week 17 game.
