Travis Kelce could become an actor when he finally decides to hang up his NFL boots. The 35-year-old tight end is considering his future in the game after his Kansas City Chiefs team were defeated by Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl earlier this month.
Kelce has been given a role in the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel, with Hollywood star Adam Sandler set to reprise his role as the title character almost 30 years after the original film was made.
The film is due to be released later this year and will follow the endeavours of unlikely golf hero Gilmore.
Sandler discussed his new film at the weekend as he spoke to Vanity Fair. And commenting on Kelce, the 58-year-old exclaimed: “Funny as h***. Funny as h***. No kidding. Unbelievable.”
Kelce has already made his debut on the small screen after starring in horror television series Grotesquerie. He also started presenting Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity? on Amazon last year.
And he will be joined in the Happy Gilmore film by a host of golf stars, with Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau all set to feature.
Kelce, who began dating girlfriend Taylor Swift around 18 months ago, has been tipped to have a big career in the spotlight when his NFL playing days come to an end.
And discussing the next chapter of his life on his New Heights podcast alongside his brother Jason, he explained: “I’m gonna take some time to figure it out.
“And I think I owe it to my team-mates that if I do come back that it’s gonna be a wholehearted decision and I’m not half-a**ing it, and I’m fully here for them.
“I think I can play – it’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”
Turning his attention to Chiefs’ Super Bowl defeat, he added: “The biggest thing is that after the game I still had over 50-something-plus of my best friends and my family and my loved ones and everybody that has supported me throughout my life was there to, at least, make it not feel like the worst day of my life.
“An opportunity to get all those people together under one roof, be around them, hug them, smile with them, find a way to get through something really, really tough. It definitely made it a little easier.”
