At colleague and close friend Travis Kelce’s charity event on Saturday, Patrick Mahomes and his spouse Brittany were among the celebrities in attendance; yet, the quarterback’s focus seemed to be elsewhere.
The Chiefs player celebrated his 35th birthday over the weekend and showed his support for his teammate’s Kelce Car Jam.
Nevertheless, Mahomes had another reason to cheer at the Saturday night charity game.
Playoff baseball returned to the Bronx as the Kansas City Royals and New York Yankees began their ALDS series.
Additionally, Kelce said that throughout the charity event, Mahomes, a huge fan of the Royals, was nervously observing their neighboring Kansas City sports club.
‘We’ve got Pat Mahomes back there somewhere,’ Kelce said from the stage. ‘He’s glued to his Royals right now.’
Although Kelce’s event went well, the Royals’ performance was less than stellar. The first game of the series ended in a 6-5 loss for Kansas City in a close, dramatic thriller played in New York.
On Monday night, Game 2 will take place in the Bronx, where Bobby Witt Jr. and company will attempt to square the series before returning to Kansas City.
Meanwhile, Kelce’s 87 & Running Foundation, which raises money for kids in Cleveland and Kansas City, will benefit from the charity block party’s revenues.
Patrick and Brittany attended the second annual Kelce Car Jam, which is a display of fancy vehicles owned by the Chiefs player and his pals, to show their support.
While Brittany has developed a good friendship with Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift over the past year, the Chiefs quarterback is close friends with his tight end.
When the pair arrived at the charity event in Kansas City, they were met by a large number of admirers.
On Monday, Kelce and Mahomes will be back on the field when the Chiefs visit Arrowhead Stadium to play the New Orleans Saints.
Since joining ESPN as an NFL commentator, Jason Kelce, a former center for the Eagles, has never called a game involving his younger brother.
Just before Mahomes arrived, Jason and his parents, Donna and Ed Kelce, arrived for the charity function. George Karlaftis, a defensive end for Kansas City, was also seen at Kelce Car Jam.
Although Kelce intended to display the 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle that he infamously drove Swift about Kansas City in the previous year, Patrick and Brittany Mahomes arrived in a black Ferrari.
‘This year is the second year we’ve done a car show, basically a block-party style event, that will showcase some of the city’s top automobiles from the Fuel House, a fun car club out here,’ Kelce said.
‘And then I guess a bunch of others that are lined up. It’s gonna be fun. I should have my old school ’70 Chevelle all revved up and ready to rock and roll. If not, I’ll bring one of the other cars that I have.’
Swift and Kelce have gone on multiple double dates. During the US Open championship last month at Flushing Meadows, both couples witnessed Jannik Sinner defeat Taylor Fritz in the men’s final.
