While Kansas City Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce made it clear he has no intention of retiring after Super Bowl LIX, it’s safe to say that the end of his career is closer than the beginning.
During opening night in New Orleans this week, Kelce was asked about his legacy and whether he cares about being remembered as the greatest tight end of all time. Kelce shared that early in his career, he did focus on achieving that honor.
However, his priorities have shifted, and now he simply wants to be known as the best teammate possible. “I used to really, really care about that, man. Like, I used to want to be known as the greatest tight end ever,” Travis Kelce admitted.
“But I think it’s just more about enjoying these moments I have with my teammates, trying to get these wins, and create these memories. This entire year has been such a battle for every single person that comes into that building every week.”
“Putting their body on the line, putting their lives aside outside of football just for one common goal. I’ve gotten away from wanting to be known as that. I think I want to be known as just one of the best teammates these guys have ever had.”
While Travis Kelce may no longer be focused on how he’s remembered in terms of greatness on the football field, he will undoubtedly go down as one of the most successful players at the tight end position and one of the greatest performers of all-time.

This postseason, Kelce passed the legendary Jerry Rice for the most receptions in NFL playoff history. With over 2,000 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns in 24 career postseason games, Kelce has cemented his place in the history books.
He’ll have the opportunity to add to that legacy, as the Chiefs aim to become the first team in NFL history to win three consecutive Super Bowls. That would mark Kelce’s fourth championship in his illustrious career, all of which he’s spent with the Chiefs.
