On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cleveland Browns 21-7 at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland. However, during the fourth quarter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a high ankle sprain after being rolled up on by a Brown’s defender, which caused him to be pulled out and replaced by Carson Wentz.
That game also marked the start of a window in which the Chiefs would play three games in just 10 days, so his availability for matchups on Dec. 21 against the Houston Texans and Dec. 25 against the Baltimore Ravens came into question.
However, tight end Travis Kelce provided a hopeful update on his health and ability to play. “I don’t know what’s going to happen for Christmas, but I know this weekend, I’m pretty sure-Pat’s been taking all the reps this week,” he said on his podcast, “New Heights.”
“We all know Pat is one of the toughest guys in the league. He’s going to play through anything and everything that he possibly can, all while making sure the team’s best interest is there.” If he’s able to not miss any time, it would be huge news for Kansas City.
Even in what’s considered a down year, Mahomes has completed 335-of-502 passes for 3,348 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. His seven winning drives this year, five of which were fourth-quarter comebacks, have been key factors in the Chiefs’ 10-0 record in one-score games.
