Travis Kelce and his Kansas City Chiefs are going about their regular business on Christmas Eve as the Super Bowl champions arrive in Pittsburgh for their Wednesday matchup with the Steelers.
But as he got off the plane wearing a Santa hat, it seemed that spending Christmas Eve apart from girlfriend Taylor Swift had not dampened his holiday mood.
The Chiefs are playing on Christmas Day for the second consecutive year, but they fell to the Las Vegas Raiders in their Kansas City home game last year.
The Chiefs are traveling this time in hopes of securing the one win required to secure the top seed in the AFC, one year after their last loss.
The Chiefs posted images of the squad, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, arriving in Pittsburgh on Tuesday afternoon.
Despite battling a high ankle sprain in recent weeks, the quarterback, who is dressed sharply in a blue suit, strode down the stairs with two bags of luggage and showed no signs of discomfort.
He is presently tied with Tony Gonzalez for the most touchdowns in Chiefs history with a count of 76 – meaning one more will TD will mean he holds the record in Kansas City.
Although Kelce hasn’t reached the explosive heights of his previous season, Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin paid a heartfelt homage to him in the lead-up to the Steelers game.
‘He is an unbelievably unselfish player, I don’t think he gets enough credit for that,’ Tomlin said.
‘Big play maker certainly… but really impressed with the unselfishness of his play.’
However, the decline in Kelce’s numbers, according to Tomlin, highlights the amount of unsung work he does for his team.
Swift’s plans to travel to Pittsburgh to support Kelce in the game on Christmas Day are still unknown, but if she does, it will be her first away game of the NFL season.
