Having a wedding in the fall is not something Travis Kelce feels comfortable with.
During the “No Dumb Questions” segment of his “New Heights” podcast with brother Jason Kelce on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs star tight end gave a caller an explanation of why he would not plan a wedding during football season.
Jason Kelce chuckled and remarked, “Sounds like this marriage is going to work out great,” when the caller explained to the Kelce brothers that his girlfriend’s aspirations of getting married in the fall would conflict with his plans to watch football.
Chiming in, his brother Travis Kelce said, “I actually don’t know people who’ve gotten married in the fall. Because all the weddings I’ve been to and all my friends always do it in the summer.”
The NFL player then advised the prospective groom to “find a weekend where the team isn’t playing anybody good maybe.” The NFL player and pop sensation Taylor Swift have been dating since around September 2023.
Pointing out another practical reason to punt on the idea of a fall marriage, he added, “Also, if you really do have a problem with that, maybe it’s in her best interest to not have it in the fall so that she knows you’re invested in the anniversary every time it comes around.”
“I think you guys should duke that out,” Kelce said, clearly stumped by the caller’s very personal conundrum.
“I’ve seen weddings in fucking February. I’ve seen weddings everywhere but [in] the fall. So I’m not sure if the fall was a good wedding season,” he added.
His brother, Jason Kelce, had a completely different take on the matter, however.
As the former Philadelphia Eagles player and longtime husband broke things down, he said, “Brother, I’m gonna tell you right now. Do the fall and the wedding and avoid this frivolous fight that means absolutely fucking nothing.”
“You can watch the football game another [time], like, record it and watch it again,” the older Kelce, who married wife Kylie Kelce back in 2018, reminded the caller.
Jason Kelce told the podcast fan to keep things in perspective, as he added, “Like, I don’t know what you want me to say. There’s certain things that are more important than football, and if the wedding isn’t more important than football, we got some bigger issues here.”
Nevertheless, his brother glibly questioned whether the couple’s football-mad acquaintances would find it difficult to accept an autumn wedding date.
“Don’t make my friends have to not go,” he said. “Everybody’s got season tickets. Alright? Don’t make my friends have to choose whether or not they have to sell their tickets that week.”
Some people speculated that Travis Kelce was considering popping the question to his well-known fiancée after hearing the brothers’ talk.
Earlier this year, the answer was reportedly a definitive “no.”
“Travis has no plans on proposing to Taylor anytime soon,” a source close to the football player told Us Weekly in May. “It’s not even on his radar. Marriage is something he takes very seriously and not something he would ever just jump into without giving it some careful consideration.”
