Taylor Swift paid a sweet tribute to her NFL-playing boyfriend, Travis Kelce, but her fans later analyzed her potential as a sports star herself. Swift, 34, was performing one of her record-breaking Eras Tour concerts in New Orleans, Louisiana, when she pretended to throw a football into the crowd.
She was performing her song “Midnight Rain” and, after she sang the lines, “And he never thinks/except when I’m on TV,” brought her hand to her forehead as if she was trying to see something in the distance. She then pretended to throw a football.
In the video footage shared to social media, the audience went wild with her nod to Kelce, who is a Super Bowl-winning tight end with the Kansas City Chiefs. While fans on social media also loved the gesture, many took to analyzing whether it would make for a decent throw on the football pitch.
One fan taggedKelce’s brother Jason Kelce and their podcast, New Heights, on X, formerly Twitter, when they asked, “is this proper football form.” Jason played with the Philadelphia Eagles for 13 years until he retired in 2023.
While the fan is still waiting on an official reply from the footballing brothers, plenty of others weighed in with their opinions, with many taking the opportunity for some lighthearted humor. “oh absolutely not unless she’s throwing a tiny football,” replied @swifferwins.
“it would be a really bad throw,” added @ta7sw1zzle. “She’s just blessing the red one for Super Bowl … pat and Trav will do the rest!” wrote @Dm21202451, referring to Kelce and his Chiefs’ teammate and quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.
The New Orleans show was not the first time Swift has paid tribute to Kelce during her Eras Tour after they went public with their romance more than a year ago.
At her Dublin, Ireland, show on June 28, Swift imitated the tight end’s iconic bow-and-arrow touchdown routine. It was during the same moment of “Midnight Rain” as when she pretended to throw a football in New Orleans.
She also did the same gesture at a show in London, England, a few days earlier. Other tributes to Kelce she has done at an Eras Tour show during that song include mouthing the word “touchdown.”
One of the first nods Swift made to Kelce during the tour was early on in their relationship when he had attended one of her concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Swift changed the lyrics to her son “Karma,” as Kelce watched on in person alongside the singer’s father, Scott Swift.
“Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me,” Swift sang, replacing the original lyrics, “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me.”
