Fans can anticipate seeing Taylor Swift on television on October 7th as she is scheduled to attend the Kansas City Chiefs’ game against the New Orleans Saints. However, can she help Travis Kelce’s form?
Through four games and 15 receptions for zero touchdowns, the 35-year-old tight end has only managed 158 receiving yards due to his struggles to get into the swing of things in the 2024–25 NFL season.
He did, however, quickly regain his normal pace in Week 4, ending with 89 yards from seven receptions (nine targets) when he and Patrick Mahomes rekindled their connection on September 29 against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Although Kelce has not performed as well as he has in past seasons, leading to concerns that he has reached retirement age and making him a very irritable and solitary player in the Chiefs’ offense, he cannot be held entirely responsible because there are only 21 targets.
“I mean it’s crazy, the respect factor they have for Travis is just unreal,” Mahomes told reporters after defeating the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3. “It’s well-deserved but we’re calling a lot of plays for Travis and it’s like two or three people are going to him.
“He understands. I think that’s the great thing about him is he wants to make an impact in the game but he wants to win at the end of the day. I’m going to try to do my best to keep feeding him the ball whenever he’s there, whenever he’s open.”
Based on that, opponents have effectively stopped the 6′ 3″ triple Super Bowl winner from playing, and no one is especially to blame. Mahomes was searching for cheaper options when he signed Rashee Rice, 24, to the injured reserve list.
However, with Hollywood Brown, Isiah Pacheco, and Rice all sidelined and Clyde Edwards-Helaire doubtful to play, Kelce is set to play his highest volume of the season against the Saints, meaning the 35-year-old is effectively the only senior receiver still available.
