Taylor Swift has issued a statement following the horrendous Southport stabbing on Monday morning. Two children were killed in the attack with six others in critical condition in hospital.
Taylor Swift said she was “completely in shock” today after a knife attack at a dance class themed around the US pop star in Southport, northern England, left two children dead.
Police have confirmed that the children were attending a Taylor Swift dance event before the horrifying attack took place. The singer said she has not stopped thinking about the ‘horrendous’ attack since she heard about it yesterday.
Writing on Instagram, Swift said she’s at a complete loss for words. “The horror of yesterday’s attack in Southport is washing over me continuously and I’m just completely in shock.
“The loss of life and innocence, and the horrendous trauma inflicted on everyone who was there, the families, and first responders.
“These were just little kids at a dance class. I am at a complete loss for how to ever convey my sympathies to these families,” she concluded. A fundraiser has also been launched by Taylor Swift fans to help the families. Over £37,000 has been raised for the families of the victims so far.
Funds raised will be donated to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. They will also be used as funeral funds for the two children who died in the attack.
In a news conference on Monday evening, Chief Constable Serena Kennedy announced that two children were killed. She confirmed that a teenage boy entered a dance school at around 11:47 am on Monday. He was armed with a knife.
She stated: “It is with great sadness that today I am here to advise that two young children have died as a result of injuries sustained in a knife attack this morning. “Nine other children have been injured, and six of them are in a critical condition, all those injured have suffered stab wounds sustained during the attack.
“Two adults are also in a critical condition after being injured during the incident.”
