Travis Kelce is the teammate Patrick Mahomes is counting on to lead the Chiefs to their third straight Super Bowl.
At a press conference on Tuesday, January 14, Mahomes, 29, told reporters that he expects Kelce, 35, to “step up” when Kansas City meets the Houston Texans on January 18.
Mahomes, who welcomed his third child, Golden Raye, with wife Brittany Mahomes on January 13, added, “The greats step up in the playoffs, and it’s just higher intensity.”
He continued, “The best players and the best leaders step up and make the best plays, and he’s done that, so I expect the same from him going into this playoffs.”
Mahomes stated that he believes Kelce “resonates with the entire team” when asked about the tight end’s mindset heading into the playoffs, where the Chiefs are aiming to become the first team in NFL history to win three straight titles.
“And that’s what it takes in order to win championships,” Mahomes said of Kelce’s winning mentality.
On and off the field, Mahomes and Kelce are tight, as are their respective partners, Taylor Swift and Brittany, both of whom are 29.
Swift, 35, quietly gave Brittany a public congrats by like her Instagram announcement post after she and Patrick revealed the arrival of Golden Raye on Monday.
The couple’s newest member joins their son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 2, and daughter, Sterling Skye, 3.
The quarterback was questioned about his and Brittany’s plans for a fourth child during Tuesday’s press conference. In response, Mahomes said, “I’m good with three for right now,”
On Saturday, January 18 at 1:30 p.m. ET, Kansas City’s first playoffs game between the Chiefs and Texans will begin at Arrowhead Stadium.
