NFL star’s family breaks silence on Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce feud

In the lead up to the San Francisco 49ers’ Super Bowl LVIII matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs over a year ago at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, the McCaffrey family made some difficult decisions.

Among them was a family-wide decision, made by 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey’s mom Lisa, to boycott music from pop star Taylor Swift, who is also the girlfriend of Chiefs star tight end Travis Kelce.

During an appearance on Olivia Culpo’s “Your Mom” podcast last February, Lisa revealed that Swift was, for all intents and purposes, dead to her family in solidarity of her son’s Super Bowl push.

“I refuse to listen to Taylor Swift songs for the next couple days,” Lisa revealed on her daughter-in-law’s podcast.

“I love her, I love the relationship, but we are boycotting any T. Swift songs. If she pops up on the radio station… nope. She’s dead to us this week.”

The 49ers lost that game 25-22 in overtime, and Christian, his mother, and his father Ed, a three-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos, all had to sorrowfully watch Swift celebrate with Kelce on the field.

And though that memory stung in the moment, Ed, who was surprised at how many people were talking about the incident last February, wants everyone to know that his family is no longer boycotting the 14-time Grammy winner.

“I don’t know why that was such a big deal back then… I don’t even remember what it was about,” Ed told Fox News.

“Just to put that matter to rest, we were fans long before she was dating Travis Kelce, and I don’t even remember what happened with the Super Bowl, but there are certainly no issues here in the McCaffrey family.”

While some NFL fans may have overreacted to Lisa’s comments, or at the very least took them out of context (she maintains her boycott was made lightheartedly), Ed set the record straight, admitting that his wife is actually a big Swifty herself.

“In terms of being a fan of Taylor Swift, that (a Swift decoration) is in our house,” Ed continued.

“My wife Lisa has probably been one of the biggest Taylor Swift fans despite the fact that she’s dating Travis Kelce… and obviously the 49ers had to play them in the Super Bowl, Lisa is an incredible fan, she’s such a phenomenal artist.”
