Matty Healy fuels rumors that Taylor Swift’s ‘Guilty as Sin’ is about him with one subtle move

The song “Guilty as Sin” from his ex-girlfriend Taylor Swift’s most recent album, “The Tortured Poets Department,” was allegedly inspired by Matty Healy.

The leader of 1975 posted Annie Lennox’s cover of The Blue Nile’s 1989 song “The Downtown Lights” on his Instagram Story on Monday.

He wrote, “You are welcome if you are unfamiliar with this cover.”

When Swift sings, “Drowning in the Blue Nile, he sent me ‘Downtown Lights,'” in the opening of “Guilty as Sin,” she alludes to the 1980s song.

Fans were enraged when Healy mentioned the song; one person wrote on X, “Matty posted downtown lights on his insta story … never using accusations of sin to beat the guilty.

“matty posting downtown lights on his instagram story, this is not a drill,” another added, while a third chimed in, “matty posting downtown lights on his ig story, okay choosing violence this morning i see.”

“not the Matty Healy (re) confirming that Guilty as Sin? is about him on his IG story,” a fourth person wrote.

On the track, Swift, 34, refers to “fatal fantasies” with an unnamed person and “recalling things [they] never did.”

“My bedsheets are ablaze / I’ve screamed his name / Building up like waves / Crashing over my grave / Without ever touching his skin / How can I be guilty as sin?” the 14-time Grammy winner sings.

“The Tortured Poets Department,” “Down Bad,” “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “Chloe or Sam or Sophia or Marcus,” and “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” are among the other “TTPD” songs that the pop singer is alleged to have penned about Healy.

An eyewitness informed Page Six that Swift and the 35-year-old rocker were seen sharing a kiss at Casa Cipriani in New York City in May 2023.

The “Cruel Summer” singer was recently unmarried after splitting from Joe Alwyn after six years of dating.

However, Swift and Healy’s romance didn’t last long. A month later, in June, the couple announced their separation.
