Kansas City Chiefs Coach Andy Reid Shares Update on Patrick Mahomes After Ankle Injury

According to coach Andy Reid, quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who sustained an injury during the team’s victory against the Cleveland Browns on December 15, is “likely” to play in the game against the Houston Texans on December 21.

Patrick Mahomes appears to have the advantage of the odds.

According to head coach Andy Reid, the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, who suffered a high ankle sprain during their victory over the Cleveland Browns on December 15, is expected to play in the team’s next game against the Houston Texans on December 21.

“He worked out this week and will most likely end up playing,” he told reporters Dec. 19. “We’ll just see how things work out today.”

Noting that the three-time Super Bowl champion is “taking it day-by-day,” Coach Reid confirmed, “He did look good out there.”

Although it’s uncertain if Patrick, who has a 3-year-old girl named Sterling and a 2-year-old son named Bronze with his pregnant wife, Brittany Mahomes, will play at quarterback on Saturday, Coach Reid is certain of one thing: Patrick’s willpower.

“I’ve been through [injuries] with him before,” he continued, “and he amazes me every time he does it. That guy is so mentally tough. It’s a mindset he has going into it. Where he was a few days ago yeah I’d probably say it was a long shot but he’s done well with it.”

However, Patrick, whose club has the best NFL record right now, has also shown his faith in Carson Wentz, the Chiefs’ backup quarterback, in case he has to miss this game.

“I’m not going to put our team in a bad position,” he said Dec. 17, per ESPN.com. “If I feel like I can play and go out there and win a football game, I’ll play. And if I don’t feel like that’s the best-case scenario, I’ll let guys like Carson play.”

“I wouldn’t say it’s dire that I play,” the 29-year-old continued.

As she did when she walked onto the field to embrace her quarterback immediately following his injury, Patrick’s wife Brittany will undoubtedly be there to support him whether he plays against the Texans or not.
