Jason Kelce recalled the moment he learned that his brother, Travis Kelce, was dating Taylor Swift, and the former NFL star said he knew this relationship was “different.”
“I remember the first time he said he was hanging out with her and I remember just being, like, ‘Are you kidding me? You’re hanging out with Taylor Swift, like, that’s insane [and] that’s awesome for you.’ You meet a lot of people [and] I think this felt different,” Jason, 37, said during a Friday, February 21, appearance on “The Steam Room” podcast.
He continued, “What also felt different was just the way he talks about her and talked about her from the moment he was with her. You could tell how much he really, really liked her right from the get-go in, just, first impressions and I think that the level early on of that was something very eye-opening to me when we first had discussions.”
Jason’s wife, Kylie Kelce, had previously discussed how she and Jason knew about Travis, 35, and Taylor’s relationship weeks before the rest of the world found out.
“We knew before everyone else knew but it was not, like … it did not hit the group chat,” Kylie said during an appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast.
“Jase and I found out together, but we knew before they hard-launched with her going to a game.” The soon-to-be dad of four also touched on the surprising success of his podcast, “New Heights,” that he cohosts with Travis and credited Taylor, 35, and her dedicated fanbase for some of its popularity.
“When we first started talking about doing it, you know, we had seen some other guys – Pat McAfee, ‘Bussin’ With the Boys,’ Draymond Green – There’d been some other guys that had gone into that space, and even current players, that kind of caused us to take that leap,” Jason told “Steam Room” hosts Charles Barkley and Ernie Johnson.
“Especially when you’re still playing, it’s like, ‘Man, is this going to be a distraction? Is it going to be viewed as we’re not preparing for the games? We don’t want that. We want this to be done the right way, and we ended up doing it. It’s just so much fun just talking to your brother … It doesn’t feel like work. I just get to be stupid with my brother.”
Jason added that he was “absolutely” amazed at how popular the show had become even during its first year.
“I never thought in a million years it would get to where it was even in year one. We just so happened to do it the first year. We both go and play each other in the Super Bowl on the biggest stage. It was an unbelievable journey right the first year we started it,” Jason explained.
“Second year, my brother goes to the Super Bowl again, obviously, his dating life factors into a whole new fanbase tuning into the show. There were a lot of things that coincided with the show being successful.”
