In Week 18, the Kansas City Chiefs had more important things to worry about than defeating the Denver Broncos. They sat 13 of their best players, including Patrick Mahomes, in order to focus on staying as healthy as possible for the postseason. Tyreek Hill, a former star of the Chiefs, and his new team, the Miami Dolphins, were consequently eliminated from the playoffs.
Only after Hill was substituted out of the game did Miami lose its Week 18 matchup with the New York Jets. He then vented his annoyances, implying that he desired to be traded.
For the first time since the 2019 season, Hill did not reach 1,000 yards at the end of the season.
Hill acknowledged that the season was “suck” because of the loss of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Nevertheless, Hill was unable to come up with a statement in the immediate aftermath of the season finale because he was preoccupied with his future.
It was a difficult season for me as captain. Missing QB1 [Tagovailoa] is terrible. Being without him hurts a lot. However, Snoop [Tyler Huntley] got us going by doing a fantastic job of filling in whenever he discovered the offense. However, it’s kind of awful when you’re missing your franchise player,” Hill said to reporters on January 5.
“I don’t even know, bro. This is my first time I haven’t been in the playoffs. So for me, like I said I just got to do what’s best for me and my family, dog. If that’s here or that’s wherever the case may be. I’m going to open that door for myself, dog. As I’m opening the door like, ‘I’m out,’ bro. So it was great playing here, but you know I – at the end of the day, bro, I got to do what’s best for my career and best – because I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there.”
When asked if those remarks indicated that he was asking for a trade, Hill said, “Yes.”
