Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has a big decision to make as he’s nearing the team-imposed March 14 deadline given to him regarding when he needs to decide whether or not he wants to retire.
Kelce has an $11.5 million roster bonus set to kick in that day, and the Chiefs likely want to know if that money will go toward keeping their star TE in the mix next season or if it will be put to use adding other pieces to the team’s 2025 roster.
If Kelce were to retire, many expect him to make the logical transition into the world of Hollywood — a passage the 10-time Pro Bowler has been preparing for over the last few years with his guest roles in FX’s “Grotesquerie” and Adam Sandler film “Happy Gilmore 2” plus his regular hosting duties on “Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?”
“I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life, and that’s always been the goal knowing that football only lasts for so long and you’ve got to get into another career or profession,” Kelce said the week before the Super Bowl.
“I’ve been doing that in my offseasons, but for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
And while it seems Kelce is split 50/50 about what his immediate future holds, Hollywood producer Paul Scanlan recently admitted to People.com that he believes the 35-year-old NFLer has a bright post-football future in the industry.
“Even just seeing what a difference it’s made having him involved in our project, I would say yeah [he has a future in Hollywood],” said Scanlan, who’s a producer on Kelce’s latest film project “My Dead Friend Zoe.”
“He’s such a likable guy and he’s a good actor. I mean, he’s proven that he’s been in some good material. And he’s a good producer.
“He’s made a difference in our project. He’s really good at generating attention and getting attention on a worthy project … I feel like he wants to do purposeful projects. And having him involved has helped us achieve our mission, getting this film out to more people where it can really make a difference.”
While many consider Kelce a natural when it comes to life in the media given his 12-year NFL career and the success of his podcast “New Heights,” which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, many fans took to social media to credit Kelce’s girlfriend Taylor Swift for setting him up for success once he leaves the NFL.
“Being with Taylor has elevated his status in a way he never would have otherwise,” one fan wrote.
“The Taylor swift effect,” another stated.
“It’s incredible how his talent only appeared now that he’s dating Taylor Swift ,” a third fan quipped.
“And they still say he’s not enjoying the fruits of the relationship,” one user chimed in.
“Hollywood is perfect for him and so is the stage, he clearly enjoys performing with Taylor on stage, tbh, I would love to see more of that,” remarked another user.
