The Kansas City Chiefs take on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, four days after defeating the Houston Texans 27-19 at Arrowhead Stadium.
The Chiefs will formally secure the No. 1 seed in the AFC if they defeat the Steelers on Wednesday at Acrisure Stadium.
Mahomes told reporters, “You want to get that 1 seed to get that bye, so that you’re basically winning a playoff game by getting the 1 seed.” You’ll also have home field advantage at Arrowhead, which we believe gives us a significant edge.
Although Mahomes’ away game on Wednesday prevents him from spending Christmas morning with his family, his wife, Brittany Mahomes, made sure he felt the love.
“You want to get that 1 seed to get that bye, so that you’re basically winning a playoff game by getting the 1 seed,” Mahomes told reporters. “You get that, and you’ll have home field advantage as well at Arrowhead, which we feel like is a huge advantage for us.
“You can’t put all your attention to it. All you can do is go out there and play football and know that we’re going to play a great football team and it’s going to take our best football to win.”
Brittany, who’s pregnant with the couple’s third baby, posted on Instagram on Dec. 24, “Merry Christmas❤️.” Flipping through to the end of album, Santa appears in the photos.
A poignant behind-the-scenes peek at their family’s Christmas pictures featuring their 2-year-old son, Bronze, having a total meltdown over meeting Santa was also shared by the soon-to-be mother of three.
Since Brittany hasn’t missed a game this season, fans may anticipate seeing her at Acrisure Stadium on Christmas. And everyone in Chiefs Kingdom, including Mahomes, is hoping that this year’s Christmas game goes better than the one from last year.
On December 25, 2023, the Chiefs suffered “a pretty embarrassing loss” at home against the Las Vegas Raiders. That game, though, “sparked us to win the Super Bowl, so it ended up working out,” according to Mahomes. “However, you want to make sure that you perform better so that everyone can see you.
“It is really cool playing the first Netflix game, playing on Christmas Day in front of the whole nation. It’s an honor, and so we will go out there trying to do what we can to not have the same experience we had last Christmas.”
