Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is known to wear her emotions on her sleeve.
So when she was in tears following Tuesday’s 85-77 win over the Atlanta Dream, people knew something was up. However, Reese was simply letting herself soak in the moment after being told by her teammates that she was named to the WNBA All-Star Team.
What followed was a moment of vindication for the 22-year-old rookie.
“I know the work I put in,” Reese said, via Yahoo Sports. “Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate and I wouldn’t be the player I was in college, or would be worse and wouldn’t be where I am right now. But I trusted the process and I believed, and I’m thankful that I dropped to [pick No. 7 in the draft] and I was able to come to Chicago. It’s just a blessing.”
Reese had the fifth-most All-Star votes (381,518) behind Caitlin Clark (700,735), Aliyah Boston (618,680), A’ja Wilson (607,300) and Breanna Stewart (424, 135).
Somewhat lost in all of the All-Star commotion was Reese’s impressive outing against Atlanta, in which she scored 12 points and totaled 19 rebounds for her league-leading 11th straight double-double.
