Angel Reese Claps Back at Criticism For Attending Met Gala Ahead of Game

“Women don’t have to be one-dimensional. They don’t have to do one thing,” the basketball player stated.
The Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese responded to those who had criticized her for going to the 2024 Met Gala on May 6, the day before her matchup with the New York Liberty.

WNBA player Angel Reese is one of the few who can claim to have spent her 22nd birthday strolling the Met Gala’s steps. She appears to have received criticism for her appearance at fashion’s biggest night from those who thought she should be concentrating on her game, though, and she recently took the opportunity to answer them.

At the Chicago Sky media day press conference on Wednesday, May 8, Reese addressed critics who objected to her attendance at the Met Gala the day before the Sky’s game versus the New York Liberty at Wintrust Arena(Chicago won 101-53 in a preseason matchup).

“A lot of people told me I shouldn’t have went to the Met Gala, that I wasn’t going to be focused playing against the runner-ups. And I went to the Met Gala, slayed the Met Gala in New York, came back, slayed against New York. It’s what I do,” Reese said when asked about the double standards for female athletes in comparison to her male peers.

Reese continued by saying that building layers is crucial for women and for the WNBA’s expansion. Knowing that I’m not a one-dimensional person inspires confidence in a great number of individuals. You don’t have to limit women to one dimension. They don’t need to take any action. That’s probably what’s causing the game to grow, she added.

Reese wore a handmade dress by 16Arlington by Marco Capaldo to the Met Gala on May 6. The dress was sparkling mint green, with a deep V-necked halter top and a sheer floor-length skirt adorned with feather accents around the waist. She wore her long hair sleekly pulled back into a ponytail.

In order to complement Reese’s dreamy gown, Stuart Weitzman modified a pair of Eva 75 Slingback heels in a seafoam green satin and added more than 600 carefully hand-placed crystals to complete the ensemble.

The Chicago Sky star celebrated her big night on X (formerly known as Twitter), writing, “Training camp in the morning, Met Gala at night, preseason game tomorrow. Just another day in the life for Angel Reese.”
